REVIEW: KATA DR-465 & DR-467

Forgive me on the image quality as my Canon 5D is use as model to showcase the bag. All pictures taken with my beloved handy Canon PowerShot A570IS.

On this review is KATA DPS range, DR-465 and DR-467. Personally I found that DPS range has a cleaner look. KATA previous design has earned the nickname "ninja turtle", such as R-103, which is not everyone cup of tea. The new design is cleaner. Instead of ninja turtle, it certainly looks more "ninja" now. DR-465/467 has been out of stock since last year. New stocks just came in last week, limited units only. I have sell few to my customer. Personally I grab hold on one DR-467 to replace my four years old wear and tear, pieces start dropping off old laptop bag.

Nothing much to complain when it comes to build quality and toughness. KATA is famous for that, being a manufacturer of military bags and bullet proof vest. DR-465 weights 1.03kg while DR-467 weights 1.4kg only.

First let me introduce the models,

My 14.1" widescreen laptop DELL Inspiron 630m, with the extended battery, measuring 13"x10.5"x1.75".

Canon EOS 5D with battery grip on EF24-105mm f4L IS USM with lenshood.

Canon EF70-200mm f4L IS USM with lenshood.

Canon Speedlite 580EX.

Size comparison between KATA DR-467 and DELL Inspiron 630m.

Lots of space to fit my laptop. In fact I brought this bag to Mac shop and tested it with the gigantic 17" Macbook Pro (15.4"x10.4"x1.0"). It FITS!

The bottom part is the camera compartment. As you can see, all the models go in without problem. When not using, you can also take the whole compartment out and use it as normal backpack. KATA is famous of using striking color for internal space, easier to locate your things.

Leave a bit of gap before zipping to proof I am not lying. Notice the straight line below the logo. That's KATA famous TST rib, protect form external impact to your equipments.

Fully loaded. Ninja prepare for action.

The side comes with a bottle holder that fits most 500ml mineral bottle.

When not use, just store it back into the zip compartment.

It is also a monopod holder.

Upper compartment has plenty of space to store your snacks, light jacket, snacks, etc. Suitable for day trip.

Pockets pockets everywhere.
To store your mobile phone, PDA, batteries, memory card, etc.

Notice the puller of the zip. It has a rubber slot to prevent it from swinging around.

Notice the bottom zip. It's cloth instead of metal, so you won't sound "cling cling cling" when walking. See how thoughtful KATA is.

 Back of DR-467.

Insertrolley compatible.

Rain cover for DR-467. It is a separate unit, so you can clean it and hang it dry after use.

Left is DR-467, right is DR-465. The difference are in size and DR-465 doesn't come with laptop compartment.

The camera compartment for DR-465 is smaller. It can only take Speedlite 580EX, EOS 5D with EF24-105mm f4L IS USM and 1-2 small lenses.

DR-465 fully loaded.

Also comes with a collapsible water bottle holder.

Smaller top compartment compare to DR-467.

DR-465 rain cover.
