I am one of the proud owner of Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3. I use it to capture many memories and shots when I go for trips with family and friends. I don't care how other people criticize on the camera, noise, color, sharpness. The truth is, it's a RM1650 digital compact camera and please do not compare it with DSLR. They are not in the same class!
Ok, back to topic. LX3 announced firmware 2.0 today. Here's a list of improvement on the new firmware.
My favorite is nevertheless 3 and 5. 1:1 aspect ratio photo! That's only found in 6×6 medium format camera. My LX3 just turn "medium format". Surely you can do this with any photo editing software, but isn't that cool to include it onboard the camera? Panasonic is the few manufacturer that is not chasing the megapixels dream. Although Panasonic digital cameras are not the main stream among amateur or professional photographers, they truly understand the importance of dynamic range for digital photography. I am glad that the high dynamic mode is not over saturated like many photographers misunderstand the meaning of HDR and overdose the saturation of the photo, turn out more than a CIG than true to the scene photo. I also receive news that Panasonic has discontinued LX3 to make way for his bigger brother GF1, sometime in October. Stay tuned for the poor man's Leica M9.

It's a bit transformer (the flash), don't you think? Hmm…
